Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao has picked up an injury in training that could see him miss the 2013 Confederations Cup on home soil.
The 23-year-old is vying with Fred for the centre forward position, but he has suffered a serious blow to the hopes of representing his national team at the tournament finals.
Damiao picked up a thigh injury in training and is set to undergo tests that will determine the extent of the injury.
Luiz Felipe Scolari has called former Manchester City striker Jo as a replacement for the friendly match against France, but he will be omitted from the Confederations Cup squad if Damiao recovers in time.
Brazil have been drawn alongside Italy, Japan and Mexico in Group A of the Confederations Cup, and they are 2.62 (13/8) favourites with Ladbrokes to win the trophy on home soil.
The Seleccao have, however, largely struggled since Luiz Felipe Scolari took over, winning just one of six friendly games.
