Copa America: Uruguay vs Chile preview

Having taken just one point from their opening game against Peru, Uruguay have got to try and win this game, but that is not going to be an easy task considering that exciting Chile team will be on the other side.

Following the impressive performances at the 2010 World Cup and the good showings in the friendly games leading to this tournament, Uruguay were considered one of the favourites for the trophy in Argentina.

However, just like the majority of South American giants, La Celeste largely struggled in their opening game and could only muster a 1:1 draw with weak Peru after coming from a goal behind.

This basically means that Oscar Tabarez’s side will have to go for a win in this game, and Uruguay are 2.63 (13/8) with Stan James to achieve their goal.

Important defender Diego Godin remains a doubt with a throat infection and he could miss the Chile game as well.

Probable starting line-up: (4-3-1-2): Muslera – Maxi Perreira, Lugano, Victorino, Caceres – Perez, Arevalo, Lodeiro – Cavani – Forlan, Suarez.

Chile are one of just few teams that managed to win their opening game at Copa America, which gave them the upper hand over their rivals in group C.

La Roja arrived to the tournament as one of the teams tipped to reach the final stages of the competition and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Claudio Borghi’s men largely dominated the game against Mexico and managed to show a lot of character by overturning a one-goal deficit after El Tri had scored completely against the run of play.

Chile are now hot favourites to win first place in the group, so I see a good value in backing La Roja to win group C at odds of 1.83 (5/6) offered by William Hill.

Playmaker Matias Fernandez is a doubt after picking up an injury against Mexico, while his replacement Jorge Valdivia is also struggling for fitness.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Bravo – Contreras, Ponce, Jara – Isla, Beausejour, Medel, Vidal, Estrada – Sanchez, Suazo.
