Copa America final: Uruguay vs Paraguay preview

The 2011 Copa America has brought us a fair share of surprises, so nobody really knows what to expect from this game.

After none of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia made it through to the final stage of the tournament, it’s up to Uruguay and Paraguay to show they fully deserve to battle for the coveted title.

Just like all other title contenders, Uruguay had a slow start to the tournament, but Oscar Tabarez’s side kept raising their form and they enter this match in great spirits.

With Edison Cavani injured and Diego Forlan completely out of form, la Celeste were always going to have problems up front, but they still managed to score in every game of the tournament so far.

Uruguay fans will be happy that Luis Suarez reached top form in the best possible time having scored a brace against Peru and he is now 2.63 (13/8) with Bet365 to score in the final.

Oscar Tabarez welcomes back Diego Perez from suspension, while Edison Cavani will have to settle for a place on the bench after recovering from a knee injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Muslera – M. Pereira, Lugano, Coates, Caceres – Gonzalez, Perez, Rios, Pereira – Forlan, Suarez.

While Paraguay showed a lot of promise at the 2010 World Cup, they have utterly failed to prove their worth in Argentina and have got to be considered one of the luckiest teams ever after riding their luck in almost every game on their road to final.

La Albirroja progressed from the group stage after recording three straight draws, but it was their performances in the knockout rounds that have come under intense scrutiny.

Gerardo Martino’s side were completely outclassed by both Brazil and Venezuela, but managed to win both games on penalties after their opponents missed an incredible amount of clear-cut chances.

Paraguay have, therefore, made it to the final without winning a single game, that is after recording five straight draws, so 3.25 (9/4) offered by Paddy Power on draw do look tempting.

La Celeste also managed to keep three clean sheets in five Copa America games and they are 3.40 (12/5) with Paddy Power to stop Uruguay from scoring in regular time.

Jonathan Santana returns to contention after serving his suspension, while Roque Santa Cruz and Aureliano Torres could play some part after recovering from injuries.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Villar – Veron, Da Silva, Alcaraz, Piris – Barreto, Ortigoza, Riveros, Estigarribia – Valdez, Barrios.
