Copa America: Argentina vs Uruguay preview

Fierce rivals Argentina and Uruguay are set to battle for a place in the Copa America semi-finals and there is no doubt we will see an enthralling encounter in Santa Fe.

Hosts Argentina were seen as the tournament favourites before the start of 2011 Copa America, but they didn’t really manage to prove that on the pitch.

La Albiceleste encountered big problems in group games against Bolivia and Colombia, although they did show some improvement to beat Costa Rica and reach the quarter-finals.

The changes that Sergio Batista introduced in the third group game produced excellent results, meaning that Zabaleta, Di Maria, Gago, Aguero and Higuain should keep their place in the side.

Argentina are priced at 1.67 (2/3) to win the game with 888Sport, but the odds don’t represent a real value for money.

Probable starting line-up: (4-2-3-1): Romero – Zabaleta, Burdisso, Milito, Zanetti – Mascherano, Gago – Aguero, Messi, Di Maria – Higuain.

Uruguay, too, had a slow start to the tournament in Argentina, but they somehow managed to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Opening draws against Peru and Chile put extra pressure on the players before the final group game against Mexico, but la Celeste recorded a narrow win and thus qualified for the next stage.

Oscar Tabarez’s side now face a tough task against their fierce rivals and one of the best teams at the tournament, but Argentina are clearly far from their top form and that is something la Celeste will be looking to exploit.

Considering that the pressure will be on the hosts, odds of 4.40 (17/5) offered by Betfair on Uruguay to go through do look tempting.

Edison Cavani is still sidelined with injury, so Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan are set to start up front.

Probable starting line-up (5-3-2): Muslera – M. Pereira, Lugano, Victorino, Caceres, A. Pereira – Gonzalez, Perez, Rios – Forlan, Suarez.
