Cesare Prandelli calls for improvement before Slovenia game

Italy have all but booked their place at the EURO 2012 with a hard-fought victory over Faroe Islands, but boss Cesare Prandelli is not impressed by the way his team are playing at the moment.

Early goal from Antonio Cassano proved enough for the important win, but the Faroes surprisingly managed to test Gianluigi Buffon on several occasions, even hitting the woodwork twice.

“We are not a solid team and have to work on this,” Prandelli told reporters after returning to Italy.

“I didn’t sleep much last night. I watched the game back, but we don’t have to start everything from scratch. Some performances can help a team realise its limitations.”

Prandelli was not satisfied with team’s efforts in the final third.

“We got into the box six times and kept exchanging passes in there. When you are in the right position, you’ve got to shoot. In the penalty area you go for goal and not to walk it into the net.”

The former Fiorentina boss has hinted at changes to the starting line-up.

“On Tuesday I will make few changes against Slovenia, so the line-up will be similar to the one seen in the Faroe Islands.”

Prandelli deployed a 4-3-1-2 formation in the Faroes, with Ricardo Montolivo playing behind Rossi and Cassano, and he is likely to stick to the same set up.

Unibet has the highest price on Italy to beat Slovenia, 1.38 (3/8), with Antonio Cassano 4.33 (10/3) at Sportingbet to score the first goal once again.
