Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has said that central defender Cristian Romero will not play again in 2021.

Romero suffered a left hamstring injury while playing for Argentina against Brazil on November 16.

The 23-year-old, who joined Tottenham from Atalanta on loan in the summer of 2021, has missed the last two matches for Spurs.

Conte told BBC Sport: “The news is not positive. I don’t know – January, February. But for 2021 he has finished to play.”

The Tottenham head coach added: “Now he is trying to recover, but he needs a long time to recover. It is a pity because he is an important player for us, the injury is very serious.

“It will take time before we see him again. We have to check his injury week by week. We have to wait and recover well.”

Romero has made six starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season.

The defender has played twice in the Carabao Cup and twice in the Europa Conference League for Spurs so far this campaign.

Tottenham will return to action on Thursday evening when they take on Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

Spurs can be backed at 11/2 on Betfair to win the London derby against Brentford 1-0.
