Antonio Cassano boosts Italy hopes

Milan forward Antonio Cassano has returned into action following lengthy spell on the sidelines, having featured in the Rossoneri’s friendly against their youth side.

The 29-year-old was given the green light by the medical staff to resume full training after undergoing a heart surgery in October.

The highly rated forward is, therefore, expected to feature for Milan in decisive Serie A battles, meaning he will have enough time to earn a call-up for the Italy national team.

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has revealed that he plans to include the Milan forward into his 23-man squad for the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.

“We are waiting for him,” said Italy coach Cesare Prandelli. “As soon as he gets the green light he will have great energy to make it in time for EURO, he will be very motivated.”

Italy face Spain, Croatia and Republic of Ireland in Group C at the final tournament, and Cassano’s return will be seen as a major boost as Prandelli is not exactly spoilt for choices in attack.

One look at the Euro 2012 betting odds will tell you that Azzurri are not exactly favourites for the title, but odds of 16.00 (15/1) offered by Bodog on Italy to win the coveted title do look tempting.
