Andre Schurrle withdraws from Germany squad

SchurrleBorussia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle will not be joining the Germany squad after he suffered an injury at the weekend.

The summer recruit was named on Joachim Low’s squad for the friendly game against Finland and 2018 World Cup qualifier vs Norway, but he has now been ruled out through a back problem.

The news was announced by the German Football Association (DFB), and it remains to be seen whether coach Joachim Low will call a replacement.

Long-serving player Bastian Schweinsteiger will say goodbye to Die Mannschaft in the friendly against Finland, while Max Meyer and Julian Brand received recalls after impressing at the Summer Olympics.

Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule is the only uncapped footballer on the roster, while Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez and Leroy Sane have been left out.

Meanwhile, Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan and Antonio Rudiger have been ruled out through injury, with Mario Gotze and Kevin Volland vying for one place up front.
