Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer will have to step up against Chelsea this weekend.

Villa will take on Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Emiliano Martinez will not be available for the game due to quarantiee issues after travelling for international duty with Argentina.

Former Arsenal custodian Martinez is the first-choice goalkeeper at Villa.

Ex-Villa striker Agbonlahor has said that Steer, 28, will have to step up in the absence of Martinez.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I don’t think Villa will to be honest. You’ve got to look at it and Martinez’s injury record is very good.

“Jed Steer is an OK backup to come in for a few games. It’s up to Jed now to show what he can do in the next game.

“If there’s one team that you expect a lot of shots from it’s Chelsea.

“I hope he’s ready for the game. He will have known for the past couple of weeks that he will be playing so he’s had time to prepare.

“So, no, I don’t think Villa will bring in another keeper. I think they will be happy with what they’ve got there.”

Villa can be backed at 7/1 on Betfair to win 2-1 against Chelsea in London this weekend.
