Benfica vs Fenerbahce preview

Fener vs BenficaBenfica have some catching up to do after the 1-0 defeat in the first leg, but many believe the Eagles are more than capable of overturning a one-goal deficit.

Their opponents are in a good position following the promising display at their Sukru Saracoglu, but Fenerbahce have some important missings to contend with ahead of the trip to Lisbon.

Benfica are enjoying one of the most successful seasons in recent history, but the next few weeks are going to define this campaign.

After the return leg against Fenerbahce, the Eagles face Estoril, Porto and Moreirense in the league before playing Vitoria Guimaraes in the Taca de Portugal final.

This basically means Jorge Jesus’ side could win no less than three major titles this term, but the Fenerbahce clash obviously has the priority at the moment.

The fact is Benfica haven’t played to their potential in Istanbul, but having won all three home games in Europa League, the Eagles are 1.45 (9/20) at Ladbrokes to make it four in a row.

Meanwhile, they are 2.00 (1/1) with Coral to overturn the one-goal deficit and qualify for the Europa League final.

Jorge Jesus will have Enzo Perez back after he missed the first leg through suspension, but Ola John misses out through suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Artur – Pereira, Luisao, Garay, Melgarejo – Perez, Matic – Salvio, Gaitan, Rodrigo – Lima.

This season hasn’t started too well for Fenerbahce, as they experienced all kinds of problems on domestic stage, although the Turkish giants were pretty convincing in Europa League.

As the season progressed, they kept raising their game and they are now in a position to fight for a place in the Europa League final.

Fenerbahce have done extremely well in Europe since the turn of the year, eliminating BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen and Lazio without losing a single game in the process.

Having also outplayed Benfica to record a 1-0 victory in the semi-final first leg, Aykut Kocaman’s side are 1.91 (10/11) with BetFred to qualify for the final.

The boss was able to rest a number of regular starters in the weekend’s victory over Kayserispor, but he still has some important missings at the moment.

Raul Meireles is out injured, while Pierre Webo and Mehmet Topal are both suspended, and no doubt they are going to be sorely missed in Lisbon.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Demirel – Gonul, Yobo, Korkmaz, Ziegler – Ucan, Sahin, Cristian – Kuyt, Sow, Erkin.
