Arsenal defender William Saliba is set to join Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice on-loan in the search of first-team football.

The Frenchman joined the Gunners for £27m in July 2019 from Saint-Etienne, before then being sent back to his former club on-loan. Since his arrival in North London however, he has not been afforded any first-team minutes, instead appearing for Arsenal’s under-23 side.

The 19-year-old had fallen behind the likes of Gabriel, Pablo Mari, David Luiz, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers in the pecking order, with rumours suggesting that Mikel Arteta did not see the defender in his plans.

He will now move to the Allianz Arena for the remainder of the 2020/21 season as Nice aim to reignite their stuttering season.

Saliba becomes the second Arsenal defender to depart in the January transfer window, with Sead Kolasinac also leaving on loan, the Bosnian rejoining former club Schalke 04 until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently in the midst of a very promising run of form under Arteta having won their last three games and rising to 11th in the Premier League table. The Gunners now sit just six points off the top four positions and can be backed at odds of 12/1 with William Hill to finish in the Champions League places come the end of the season.
