WijnaldumNewcastle United midfielder is desperately trying to engineer a move away from St James’ Park, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Netherlands international enjoyed a good debut season in English Premier League, but could not help the Magpies avoid relegation to the Championship.

He has since emerged as a top target for high-flying Tottenham Hotspur, but Spurs are not prepared to match Newcastle’s £25 million asking price.

Wijnaldum is eager to move to White Hart Lane and secure Champions League football next season, but it remains to be seen whether he can persuade his employers to lower their demands.

The 25-year-old impressed to score 11 Premier League goals last season, while producing another 5 assists.

Fellow midfielder Moussa Sissoko is another high-profile player desperate to leave Newcastle United and he should have no shortage of offers following some impressive showings at the Euro 2016 finals.

The Magpies have been made the number one favourites to win the Championship title, and they can be backed at 3.00 (2/1) at the moment.
