Wigan vs Swansea preview

Swansea vs WiganAn exciting 3-2 victory over West Brom gave Wigan Athletic a realistic chance of beating the drop and they can now finally climb out of the relegation zone, obviously provided they win this game.

Swansea held Manchester City to a goalless draw at home and they hope to avoid defeat at DW Stadium and remain in a good position for a top table finish.

Every game until the end of the season is like a final for Wigan, but the odds are that this week is going to determine the outcome of their season.

The Latics first play Swansea in the Premier League looking for a win that would see them leave the bottom three ahead of the final two fixtures, before meeting Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

With his side in a precarious position in the league, Roberto Martinez obviously cannot afford to rest his key men in the Swansea game, and could field a similar side to that which masterminded a valuable victory at West Brom.

Given that the Latics are once again gaining momentum in the season finale, they look a good bet to win the game at odds of 1.83 (5/6) offered at Coral.

The Spanish manager again faces a genuine selection headache since Maynor Figueroa, Jean Beausejour, Ivan Ramis, Antolin Alcaraz, Albert Crusat and Mike Pollitt are all out injured.

The good news is midfielder Ben Watson came through the West Brom game unscathed having returned from a leg break.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Joel – Stam, Boyce, Scharner, Espinoza – McCarthy, McArthur, Gomez – McManaman, Kone, Maloney.

Swansea have clearly been suffering from the lack of motivation after ensuring safety and clinching the Capitol One Cup title, with the players not looking their usual selves in the last couple of months.

The Swans picked up just three out of possible 21 points, scoring just four goals in the process, which is enough to suggest they are in for a difficult task at DW Stadium.

Michael Laudrup’s side did hold Manchester City to a goalless draw at the weekend, but they were largely outplayed by their opponents and now need to show improvement if they are to get anything from this game.

However, having failed to score in five of last seven matches on the road, there may be some value in backing the Swans not to score at 2.50 (3/2) offered at Ladbrokes.

Top scorer Michu misses out with a hamstring injury, while Ronald Lamah is out with the same problem.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Vorm – Range, Chico, Williams, Davies – Britton, De Guzman – Routledge, Hernandez, Dyer – Moore.
