Wenger will only sign ‘exceptional players’

Arsenal under-fire manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that a big name signing could arrive at the Emirates in the January transfer window.

The Gunners managed to get their season back on track following a disappointing start, but Wenger, nonetheless, finds himself in a precarious position.

And there is every chance the Frenchman will need to reinforce the squad in January if Arsenal are to mount a serious top 4 challenge.

“We are in the market, but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him,” Wenger told reporters.

Arsenal officials produced quite a coup by tying down Jack Wilshire, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Aaron Ramsey to new long-term deals, but the future of Theo Walcott and Bacary Sagna still remains in the balance.

The Gunners can be backed at 1.80 (4/5) offered by Sportingbet to finish the league campaign in top 4, while they are 7.00 (6/1) with SkyBet to win a major trophy this season.
