Costa Rica vs GreeceArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has challenged Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell to prove he is worthy of a first team chance.

The player’s career at the Emirates has been quite disappointing so far, and the 23-year-old has yet to make a single Premier League appearance this season.

Nevertheless, Arsene Wenger has all but suggested he will start the Capital One Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday, where the Gunners are 1.49 (1/2) to emerge victorious.

At the same time, the manager has made it clear that Campbell needs to improve if he wants a first team opportunity.

“I like Joel Campbell very much for two reasons,” Wenger told reporters. “One is that he has outstanding individual quality, but he is also a team player. He works very hard for the team.

“I’m convinced he will get a chance here and that he will take it. He has another opportunity against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m hopeful that he will show that he has the quality to play for Arsenal.”

Joel Campbell has only made a total of four Premier League appearances since joining the Gunners and he has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates of late.
