Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are on the look out for another defender as they prepare for the new season.

The Frenchman is not satisfied with his current options in the heart of defence that include Thomas Vermaelen, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny, and is looking to bring another centre-back.

“I don’t want to comment individually because I do not want to destabilize clubs,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.

“I do not want to do to other clubs what some clubs do to us so I wouldn’t like to comment individually on any player.

“Certainly, we will have to find one more defender. We are working on it. I can promise we work very hard on it.

“In fairness, everybody looks for players. Everybody looks for the same area and you see that nobody turns up with magic.

“It’s all about being steady, working very hard on it and being calm as well.”

Wenger is reportedly keeping tabs on Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Everton star Phil Jagielka and Blackburn defender Chris Samba, but the Gunners have yet to make any concrete moves.

With Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri looking to leave the club, things don’t look very promising for Arsenal, so no wonder they are 3.75 (11/4) with Victor Chandler to win a major trophy next season.
