rooney1Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney admits that he sees himself playing in midfield after impressing in the middle of the park since returning from injury.

The 30-year-old footballer had been used as a central midfielder in the past, and with the Red Devils facing all sorts of problems in said department, Louis van Gaal also started deploying the forward as his key playmaker.

Rooney has done really well since returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines and it appears he is enjoying his new role.

“Sometimes you have to make choices in your career and at the moment it’s better for me to play deeper,” Rooney was quoted as saying.

“It could be a bit different for England where I could still be the striker but probably next season that’s where I see myself playing.”

There is a good chance Rooney will be used in midfield for England as well, considering that the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge are all very good options up front, while there is an obvious lack of creativity in midfield.

Despite missing the March friendlies, Rooney is almost certain to start England’s opening Euro 2016 fixture against Russia, where the Three Lions are 2.10 (11/10) to emerge victorious.
