Valencia forward Juan Manuel Mata is on the brink of joining Chelsea, the Spanish club have confirmed.

The Spain international was given permission to leave Mestalla this summer if the right offer comes along.

Mata was expected to join Arsenal after the Gunners reportedly met a release clause in his contract, but the deal fell through as the clause expired.

Chelsea then joined the race for the highly rated winger and the Blues have now agreed to pay Valencia €27 million for the player’s services.

“Valencia Club de Fútbol have reached an initial agreement with Chelsea FC for the transfer of Juan Manuel Mata to the English club,” read a statement on Valencia’s official website.

“The completion of the deal is subject to the player passing the relevant medical examinations.”

The 23-year-old is expected to occupy the left wing position in Andre Villas-Boas’ 4-3-3 formation, adding much needed width to Chelsea’s attack.

At the time of Mata’s expected arrival, the Blues are 4.00 (3/1) to win English Premier League title and there seems to be a really good value in the odds offered by Unibet.
