United will only let De Gea leave if Ramos joins

BBC Sport has learned that Manchester United are playing hardball in negotiations with Spanish giants Real Madrid over goalkeeper David De Gea.

It is no secret that los Blancos are determined to lure the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper to Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with the player also keen on a switch.

But, even though his contract is due to expire in a year’s time, Manchester United are prepared to risk losing De Gea on a free rather than being forced into selling this summer.

The Red Devils have all but decided not to do any business with Real Madrid unless los Blancos agree to let Sergio Ramos move to Old Trafford.

That looks highly unlikely at the moment with new coach Rafael Benitez adamant the Spain hotshot will remain in Madrid.

Nevertheless, Manchester United officials will not be too disappointed even if De Gea stays as he could help the team finally mount a serious title challenge in the Premiership.

With Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Darmian and Depay all joining and few others to follow, the Red Devils are 6.00 (5/1) to go all the way.
