Sunderland vs Middlesbrough Preview

Sunday afternoon’s Premier League action sees Sunderland face Middesbrough in the Wear-Tees derby.

The Black Cats lost their first game with David Moyes as their manager, falling to a 2-1 defeat to title favourites Manchester City last Saturday.

Moyes has defensive issues with Everton target Lamine Kone out injured while Younes Kaboul is on the verge of completing a move to Waford.

Fabio Borini may miss out along with Lee Cattermole, Billy Jones, Jan Kirchoff and Sebastian Laarson though Steven Pienaar is in line to make his debut.

Jermaine Defoe is favourite to get the first goal of the game at 6.0 (5/1) with Paddy Power ahead of Jermain Lens, who is a 13.0 (12/1) chance with Ladbrokes.

The home win is priced at 2.57 (11/7) with 888 Sport with the visitors widely available at 3.1 (21/10). The draw can be backed at 3.2 (11/5) with a number of firms.

Middlesbrough secured an opening day draw against Stoke City with Xherdan Shaqiri canceling out debutante Alvaro Negredo’s eleventh minute opener.

Grant Leadbitter and Martin de Roon miss out with respective hernia and hamstring problems though Daniel Ayala may return from an ankle injury.

Negredo is 7.0 (6/1) to open the scoring with Gaston Ramirez a 13.0 (12/1) shot with Sky Bet.

The last three meetings between these two sides have come in cup competitions with the last league clash coming in January rel=”nofollow”2009.

That game ended in a score draw while the last league meeting at the Stadium of Light ended in a 2-0 win for the hosts.
