Raheem Sterling EnglandLiverpool hotshot Raheem Sterling will return to training early next week, according to BBC Sport.

The England starlet was allowed a break by manager Brendan Rodgers, missing the games against AFC Wimbledon and Sunderland.

The youngster posted a picture enjoying himself in Jamaica, but he is now due to return to Anfield and will be in contention for the Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, where the Reds are 1.91 (10/11) to claim maximum points.

Many have questioned Rodgers’ decision to rest Sterling when six players were unavailable, but the manager still believes it was the right thing to do.

“For me, it was the right thing to do for Raheem,” Rodgers told the BBC. “He’s a very talented young player and we ask a lot of him.

“He’s one of those little robust players but he’s played a lot of football, not just this season but over a couple of years since he’s come into the team. Internationally as well, there’s been a big demand on him.

“Of course, as a manager you can absolutely maximise everything out but when you get to the last 10 games of the season he might be running on empty.”

With the forward having already made 34 outings for club and country this season, Rodgers seems to have a point.

“If I was being selfish I would have him in every game but I hope that he can play at this level for the next 10 years – he has to have that breathing space.”
