Manchester City’s title challenge this season has left many disappointed at the Etihad Stadium, none more so than midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola’s men currently sit second in the table but look highly unlikely to lift a third consecutive crown, sitting 22 points behind leaders Liverpool. Even the bookies have the Citizens as distant outsiders, with odds available of 250/1 with Betfair for them to somehow be named champions this season.

Despite still challenging in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, as well as reaching the Carabao Cup final, the league campaign has been a source of frustration for Bernardo Silva and has appealed to his teammates to improve ahead of next season.

Talking to Sky Sports, he said: “The Premier League has been a huge disappointment to be so far from Liverpool and now we have to fight for the second position.

“It hurts a lot because when you start a season, you always want to go for the Premier League, it’s the main competition and the most important for the fans.

“So it’s very disappointing, no one expected us to be this far from Liverpool in January or February so it’s something that we need to learn from. We need to understand what failed and how we can solve it.”
