Edin DzekoNew Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said in no uncertain terms that he is eager to keep hold of striker Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian striker has been unhappy with the treatment from former boss Roberto Mancini and in turn expressed his desire to leave the club this summer.

However, new manager Manuel Pellegrini believes he has persuaded Dzeko to remain at Etihad after all.

“I spoke two weeks ago with Dzeko when he was on holiday and he does not have any problems,” the Chilean told reporters.

“He will stay here. For me, he’s a very important player. I’m sure that he will give this year the performances to show what he can do.”

Manchester City have already signed midfielders Fernandinho and Jesus Navas, while they are expected to add few more high-profile players to their ranks.

Having failed to win a single trophy last term, the Citizens are 1.73 (8/11) with Coral to win any major title this time out.
