Premier League

Tuesday evening’s Premier League action from St James’s Park where Newcastle United take on Manchester City.

The hosts ended a run of five league games without a win with victory over fellow strugglers Cardiff City last time out though defeat here could see them leapfrogged by Neil Warnock’s men – who currently occupy eighteenth spot.

Rafa Benitez made seven changes for the FA Cup Fourth Round defeat to Watford on Saturday afternoon so is likely to recall several first team regulars here, including top scorer Salomon Rondon.

Fellow forward Joselu will the game with an ankle problem, with Mohammed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and Ki-Sung-yeung also sidelined.

Rondon is priced at 11.5 (21/2) to get the first goal of the game with Bet Victor, ahead of 23.0 (22/1) chance Ayoze Perez.

The home win is as highly priced as the 15.0 (14/1) on offer from Sky Bet, with the visitors favourites at 1.2 (1/5) with Bet Victor. The draw can be backed at 8.0 (7/1).

Pep Guardiola’s side have won their seven games in all competitions so far in January with an aggregate score of 30-1.

Benjamin Mendy will be assessed ahead of kick-off after missing the cup win over Burnley with a swollen knee and Vincent Kompany is unavailable while David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte are all pushing for recalls to the starting line-up after being rested at the weekend.

Aguero, who has scored fourteen times in twelve appearances against Newcastle is unsurprisingly favourite to net first here at 4.33 (10/3) with some firms, with Kevin De Bruye priced at 9.0 (8/1).

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker helped secure a 2-1 win for City when the sides met at the Etihad Stadium – their fifth win in their last six league meetings.

Both teams have scored in four of their last five clashes and you can back that to be the case this time around at a widely available priced of 2.2 (6/5).

Alternatively, with five of the last six meetings league between the sides in the North East having two or fewer goals, you may be tempted to bet on that outcome at 2.63 (13/8).
