Newcastle United vs Chelsea Preview

February 1, 2013
By: Deke Hardman

Newcastle United host Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, looking to build on the midweek victory at Aston Villa, that took them four points clear of the relegation zone.

First half goals from Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye secured a first victory for Alan Pardew’s men in six league games.

Newcastle’s only absentees are the injured Hatem Ben Arfa, and Check Tiote, who is on Africa Cup of Nations duty. Sylvain Marveaux has recovered from a foot injury, while Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko are set to be handed their home debuts.

Cisse is 8.0 (7/1) to open the scoring, whilst you can back Cabaye to net first at 18.0 (17/1) with Bet Victor.

Newcastle are widely available at 4.0 (3/1) for the victory, with Chelsea 2.15 (23/20) with Bet Victor. The draw is on offer at 3.6 (13/5) with a number of firms.

Chelsea go in to the game on the back of their 2-2 draw at Reading on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Juan Mata and Frank Lampard seemed to have secured a fifth away league victory in a row, but two goals in the last five minutes from Adam Le Fondre gave the hosts a share of the spoils.

Petr Cech looks set to return to the starting line-up, though David Luiz is out injured and Eden Hazard completes his three match ban.

Demba Ba is the 5.5 (9/2) favourite to open the scoring as he faces his former club for the first time since moving to West London, while joint top-scorer Mata is a 9.0 (8/1) shot with Ladbrokes.

The Blues won the corresponding fixture by three goals to nil in December 2011, extending their unbeaten run at St. James Park to six games.

In those six games, they have remarkably only conceded one goal. Coral offer odds of 4.33 (10/3) that the European Champions will win the game without conceding, while a 1-0 away victory is 10.0 (9/1) with Bet Victor.

Alternatively, you can back Frank Lampard to get even closer to Bobby Tamling’s goal record, with Coral offering 3.75 (11/4) for the midfielder to score at any time.

Lampard scored his 196th goal for the club on Wednesday evening, and needs just six more to become Chelsea’s joint top scorer of all time.
