Midfielder Nemanja Matic has committed his future to Manchester United by signing a new three-year deal with the club.

His new contract is now to set run until the summer of 2023 despite having looked set to leave the club in January.

He has put in a series of impressive performances since, forcing himself into first-team reckoning once again. Matic’s deal was originally extended in March by one year as the Red Devils triggered an option in his contract.

Now set to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future, the former Chelsea man told the club’s official website: “I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club.

“As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour.

“This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.

“This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud.”

Since signing from Chelsea in 2017 for approximately £40m, the now 31-year-old has made 114 appearances and scored four goals. Matic sits at a price of 28/1 with William Hill to score the opening goal of the game against Aston Villa on Thursday.
