Manchester United are on the verge of signing Luka Modric, according to a report from The Sun.

The Red Devils are widely looking for a deep-lying playmaker to compensate for the retirement of Paul Scholes and Sir Alex Ferguson sees the Croatian midfielder as the perfect man for the job.

The Scottish manager has publicly admired the diminutive Croat on numerous occasions and he is now ready to formalize his interest.

While Tottenham are determined to keep hold of their most prized asset, Spurs will be forced to sell if the big money offer comes along, as confirmed by an unnamed source from the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson has built a great relationship with Harry Redknapp over the years, which should help United close the deal this summer.

On the other hand, Redknapp’s interest in Liverpool’s Joe Cole confirms that ‘Arry is already preparing for life without Modric.

Taking all this into consideration, now is the right time to back Manchester United as Modric’s club after the summer transfer window at odds of 2.00 (1/1) offered by Victor Chandler.

Modric is 1.73 (8/11) to remain at White Hart Lane, while Victor Chandler pays 8.00 (7/1) if he ends up at Manchester City or Barcelona.
