Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is set to miss approximately two months of action due to injury.

The Uruguayan suffered the injury in the recent 2-0 win against League One outfit Portsmouth, eventually having to be taken from the field on a stretcher.

His problem has now been revealed as an ankle fracture and will rule him out for at least eight weeks meaning that Torreira is set to be missing for key Gunners’ games between now and the end of the campaign as they aim to hunt down a European spot.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners face Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the Premier League, as well as contesting an FA Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United.

Since signing for Arsenal in July 2018 from Serie A outfit Sampdoria, Torreira has been in and out of the starting line up. In all, the 24-year-old has made 83 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

He has started 15 Premier League games throughout the current campaign with Arsenal having struggled initially under Unai Emery before the arrival of Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners tussle with Manchester City on Wednesday evening and are currently at a price of 8/1 with Betfair to win the game without Torreira.
