Lucas LeivaLiverpool have been handed a major boost in an attempt to revive their title bid as it was revealed the likes of Lucas Leiva, Mamadou Sakho and Luis Enrique were all closing in on a return.

Given that Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger have already resumed training, the Reds are set to enter the business end of the season with all their key players available.

Lucas Leiva was predicted to be out for at least two months with a knee injury, but club head of performance Glen Driscoll suggested the player was well ahead of plan.

“Lucas Leiva was due to be in a brace for six weeks, according to specialists’ opinion, but yesterday he was outside running just over three weeks in, which is fantastic and shows just how ahead of schedule he is.”

There was more good news for Brendan Rodgers as both Jose Enrique and Mamadou Sakho are stepping up their recovery.

“Jose Enrique also had a complex knee issue and following surgery is in the process of achieving his final strength gains before he can return to training.

“Without providing specific dates, I would hope that by the end of the month we should start to get the likes of Jose, Lucas and Sakho back.”

With Premier League leaders Chelsea having suffered a setback against West Brom, Liverpool can close the gap to just four points by beating Fulham on Wednesday evening, with away win paying 1.44 (4/9).
