Newcastle United face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, in a game steeped in memories of possibly the greatest game ever to be played in the Premier League.

Remarkably, it is sixteen years since that incredible 4-3 win for Roy Evans’ Liverpool, which all but ended Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle sides chances of securing a what would have been a first league title for the club in almost seventy years.

Brendan Rodgers side go in to the game on the back of their 3-1 defeat by Swansea City in the League Cup on Wednesday, having drawn 2-2 in the Merseyside derby last time out in the league.

Captain Steven Gerrard is set to make his 600th appearance for the club, and the midfielder is priced at 9/1 (8.0) with a variety of bookmakers to celebrate the occasion by scoring the first goal of the game.

Liverpool, despite having won just one their five home league fixtures this term go in to the game as odds on favourites, with 1.62 (8/13) the best price on offer. Newcastle can be backed at 6.0 (5/1) with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 4.0 (3/1) with the same firm.

Alan Pardew will be unable to call upon Check Tiote for Sunday’s game, as he serves the second game of a three match ban, though top scorer Demba Ba is expected to be passed fit in time to play, following a minor calf injury.

Ba’s fellow countryman Papiss Cisse scored a late winner in his sides 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion last time out, and the Newcastle number nine is available at a best price of 10.0 (9/1) to open the scoring this time around.

With eight of the last nine meetings between the sides offering up at least three goals, the offer of 1.78 (7/9) from 188 Bet for over 2.5 in the game looks beyond tempting, though with Liverpool so inconsistent in front of their own fans, you might prefer the value offered by Bet 365, who have a price of 4/0 (3/1) for the Toon Army to score at least twice.
