Chelsea vs Fulham Preview

It’s an all West London affair at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, as Fulham make the short trip to face Chelsea.

The hosts go in to the game on the back of a goalless draw with Champions Manchester City on Sunday, though it was events off the field that grabbed most of the headlines.

It was Rafael Benitez’s first game in charge of the European Champions, and the former Liverpool boss was booed by a large section of the home supporters before the game even began, something which according to Trizia Fioerllino, Chair of the Chelsea Supporters Trust, will continue for the rest of the Spaniards time in charge.

On the field, Benitez could include Gary Cahill, who missed Sunday’s game through illness though Frank Lampard, John Terry and Daniel Sturridge remain out through injury.

Despite continuing to be lacklustre in front of goal, Fernando Torres is favourite to open the scoring at a price of 5.5 (9/2) with the majority of firms, while fellow Spanish International Juan Mata is an 8.0 (7/1) shot with Bet 365.

Despite having not won in five league games, Chelsea are odds on to pick up three points with 1.5 (1/2) the best price on offer for the home win. Fulham are generously on offer at 13/2 (7.5) with most bookmakers, whilst draw is widely available 4.5 (7/2).

Like their opponents, Fulham are also on a five game winless streak, losing by a goal to nil at Stoke last time out.
The result saw Martin Jol’s men drop a place below Stoke to tenth place, though a victory on Wednesday evening could lift them as high as sixth place.

The visitors are without centre back Brede Hangeland, who joins Alex Kacaniklic, Bryan Ruiz, Keiran Richardson and Simon Davies on the injury list.

Top scorer Dimitar Berbatov has scored three in five, and is 13.0 (12/1) with Bet Victor to get the first goal of the game, whilst former Chelsea man Damien Duff is a 23.0 (22/1) shot with Bet 365.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in last season’s corresponding fixture back in April, and a repeat of that score line is intriguingly available at 10.0 (9/1) with Ladbrokes.
