Chelsea have shown interest in Palermo playmaker Josip Ilicic as Carlo Ancelotti starts search for January reinforcements.

The Slovenian has made an instant impact at Palermo after arriving from Maribor last summer and he is already tracked by number of big European clubs.

The Blues have contacted the Serie A side regarding the Slovenia international, but after being informed Ilicic would cost around £12 million, they could wait until the summer before making any official bid.

Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to add more quality to the side as he might not be at Stamford Bridge come end of the season, with the Italian manager currently priced at 6.50 (11/2) to be the next Premiership boss to go.

Avram Grant remains the hot favourite at William Hill with odds of 1.33 (1/3), Gerard Houllier is 6.50 (11/2), while odds on Mick McCarthy are 11.00 (10/1).
