Edinson Cavani has ended any speculation over his Manchester United future by penning a new one-year deal at the club.

There were previously rumours that the Uruguayan was not totally satisfied with life at Old Trafford and could seek a move away after just a solitary season.

A move back to South America and Boca Juniors had been mooted with even Cavani’s father talking up the prospect.

However, in the end, he has elected to remain with the Red Devils by penning an extension to his contract until the summer of 2022.

Talking after signing his new deal, Cavani said: “From the very first moment that I arrived, I felt the confidence of the manager. As a player, this belief gives you the perfect opportunity to play your best football and I want to thank him for that.

“I have been touched with how much the supporters have wanted me to stay, and I will give everything to bring them happiness and joy with my performances on the field. I’ve not yet been able to play in front of the Old Trafford crowd and that is something that I cannot wait to do.”

The 34-year-old has certainly had a brilliant impact at Old Trafford since his free transfer from Paris Saint Germain. He has netted 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions and sits at a price of 11/2 with Paddy Power to open the scoring against Leicester City on Tuesday evening.
