Manchester United are reportedly close to making a deadline day double swoop with the acquisitions of Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles.

According to Sky Sports, the duo have arrived at the Red Devils’ Carrington Training Ground to undergo their respective medicals.

The Uruguayan striker is set to sign a two-year-deal at Old Trafford, joining on a free transfer after his deal with former club Paris Saint Germain expired at the end of the 2019/20 campaign. In his time in the French capital, the now 33-year-old scored exactly 200 goals in 301 appearances.

Meanwhile, Brazilian international defender Telles is set to join from Portuguese champions FC Porto. The 27-year-old is expected to pen a five-year deal with the Red Devils, after the two clubs agreed a fee of £15.4m for his services, with the defender now in the final year of his contract.

The duo may not be the only new arrivals on the final day of the transfer window though, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actively pursuing a deal for Atalanta’s promising winger Amad Traore. However, that deal may not be possible until the January transfer window.

Solskjaer will hope that Cavani and Telles’ arrivals can improve United’s fortunes following their poor start to the season. The Red Devils have lost two out of their opening three games including the weekend’s 6-1 thumping at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

They can now be backed at odds of 9/4 with Betfair to finish in the top four come the end of the season.
