Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has insisted that compatriot Bruno Fernandes can deal with the pressure at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese midfielder completed his move to the club during the January transfer window, rounding off a long-saga for a reported fee of approximately £47m.

He made an instant debut by starting in the 0-0 home draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, putting in a relatively impressive showing in front of an expectant Old Trafford crowd. Dalot has said that his countryman will certainly be able to cope with the pressure of being a Red Devil.

Talking to Sky Sports following the draw with Wolves, he said: “The players knew Bruno was a very good player of course. It’s different seeing him abroad and then seeing him in training every day. He’s going to bring us a lot.

“I think he’s going to be a very good player for us and he’s going to help us build this team. Yeah, he’s an experienced player. He played abroad a lot of years and you knew he could come here and do a great job.

“For me, it was not a surprise and I think that he is going to show us a lot more, but it was a fantastic debut for him.”

Manchester United are now not in action in the Premier League until after the winter break against Chelsea in a match that could be crucial in the race for the top four. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troops are currently available at a price of 8/1 with William Hill to finish within the UEFA Champions League positions.
