Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he is currently in hospital recovering from Malaria.

The forward, 31, revealed the news on Thursday evening in an Instagram post ahead of the Gunners’ UEFA Europa League tie with Slavia Prague.

He wrote: “Unfortunately I contracted Malaria whilst being on national team duty in Gabon a few weeks ago.

“I’ve spent a few days in hospital this week but I’m already feeling much better every day, thanks to the great doctors that detected and treated the virus so quickly.”

It remains to be seen how long the striker will be restricted to the sidelines for but he will certainly be hope to be back in action sooner rather than later as the Gunners continue their push in both the UEFA Europa League and for another European finish in the Premier League.

So far throughout 2020/21, Aubameyang has made 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and notching a further two assists.

Whilst he is still in hospital, Alexandre Lacazette will be hoping to remain in good form and continue his recent goalscoring. The Frenchman has scored five in his last five Premier League games and struck against Slavia Prague on Thursday.

He can be backed at odds of 7/2 with Paddy Power to net the opening goal of the match against Fulham on Sunday.
