Mikel Arteta has revealed that he is feeling ‘positive’ over a deal to keep top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal.

The Gabonese forward is out of contract at the end of next season, with the club seemingly desperate to keep him around. Contract negotiations have reportedly been underway for some time but an agreement is yet to be reached.

However, Gunners’ boss Arteta is remaining hopeful that Aubameyang will stay in North London beyond the summer of 2021.

Talking ahead of Arsenal’s Community Shield clash with Liverpool this weekend, he said: “I keep being positive. We had some really good talks with him and his agent.

“I am pretty confident we will find an agreement soon, that’s my feeling.

“[It will be a massive lift] for everyone and for him as well. He should be very happy if he is able to stay at the club for a long time.”

Aubameyang has been an inspirational figure for Arsenal since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2018. In 109 appearances for the club, he has scored 70 goals, winning the FA Cup and the Premier League golden boot.

He currently sits at 6/1 with Betfair to score the most goals in the Premier League next season.
