Arsenal have decided to act following the embarrassing 8:2 defeat to Manchester United and they are now on the verge of signing two quality defenders.

The Gunners are in advanced talks with Werder Bremen regarding centre-back Per Mertesacker, and it is believed the Germany international is set to complete a £10 million switch to the Emirates.

The 26-year-old reportedly flew to London yesterday ahead of signing a three-year deal with the Gunners.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have agreed a £6.2 million deal for Fenerbahce full-back Andre Santos, who is also expected to arrive at the Emirates before the transfer window is over.

The Brazil international is considered one of the best left-backs in world football and he is expected to fill in the hole that has formed with Gael Clichy’s departure to Manchester City.

England Under-21 international Kieran Gibbs was expected to make the left-back position his own, but he has missed the start of the season through injury.

Arsene Wenger has got just two more days to try and sign the players that could help him save this season, and if you believe the Frenchman will succeed in his quest, then this is the right time to back Arsenal for the top 4 finish at odds of 2.88 (17/9).
