Premier League giants Arsenal are wrapping up the deal to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund, BBC Sport can reveal.

The 29-year-old will be out of contract in June 2018 and he will reportedly join the Gunners in a £16 million transfer this summer.

Arsenal plan to add more experience and strong characters to their back line, and they are also believed to be close to signing full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.

The Swiss defender is available on a free transfer and he should serve as an excellent back up for the talented Hector Bellerin.

Meanwhile, Sokratis Papastathopoulos has spent last five years at Signal-Iduna Park, making 130 Bundesliga appearances and scoring 7 goals in the process.

The Greek centre-back also amassed 28 Champions League appearances and he should prove a very good signing for the Gunners.
