Everton boss Marco Silva has suggested that midfielder Andre Gomes could make his return from injury before the end of the season.

The Portuguese suffered a horrendous broken leg in a challenge with Heung-Min Son during the recent 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. He has successfully undergone surgery to rectify the problem and whilst there is no set schedule for Gomes’ return to action, he could be seen again before the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign.

He said: “It is not easy for us to give a sure date about when he will return.

“What is in our mind and the feedback I had from our medical staff is that possibly we will see Andre playing again this season.”

Prior to his injury, Gomes had impressed at Goodison Park. Originally joining the Toffees on-loan from Barcelona last season, he made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists. However, it was his classy and composed play in midfield that convinced the club to make the deal permanent in the summer transfer window.

As his recovery begins, Everton will hope to really get their season going. Silva’s troops currently sit 17th in the Premier League table ahead of their match with Southampton. The Toffees are available at a price of 29/20 with William Hill to win the match.
