Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved to reveal that he expects star player Alexis Sanchez to return to training on Tuesday.

The Chilean was expected to resume training on Sunday after a prolonged summer holiday, but an illness prevented him from joining the squad.

Arsene Wenger has suggested that Sanchez will instead return on Tuesday, while remaining adamant his key man will not be leaving this summer.

“He has flu, yes. I had him on text yesterday,” Wenger told reporters. “There’s no development – he is staying, of course.”

Even though Sanchez is unlikely to extend his stay at the Emirates, the boss is prepared to lose him on a free transfer next summer and has no intention of selling his star footballer.

“The players who have one year of their contract have to respect their contract and play out their contract,” Wenger said.

“For a manager, it’s a bit different because it concerns more what is the future of the club.

“The players were thinking, ‘What’s going on and what’s happening?’, so it creates uncertainty (with my contract) because it’s a global policy.

“I am responsible for the global policy of the club but for the players it is different.”

Alexis Sanchez is now 10/11 to remain with the Gunners, but Man City and Paris Saint-Germain still remain keen on his services.
