Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has said that if the 2019/20 Premier League season cannot resume then it should be scrapped.

The current campaign has been suspended indefinitely by The FA due to the coronavirus pandemic. It remains to be seen when, or indeed if, the game will resume.

Shaw has said that if the season cannot get underway once again then it should be written off.

Talking during the Combat Corona fundraiser for UNICEF, he said: “Scrap it and start again. Start it again, yeah.

“It’s got to be, you know. If we can’t carry it on, it’s got to be void.”

Many options in relation to football have been explored by all of the respective leagues and governing bodies, including playing matches behind-closed doors. Shaw has said he would prefer to take to the pitch in front of supporters.

He continued: “Fans are so important. You realise it even more (now). I think the sport is for fans really… I think if you don’t have fans, and you don’t play in front of fans, it just doesn’t feel right.

“Especially on matchday, the fans are always amazing and always help the team. Whether it’s home or even away, our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they’re always there with us.”
