Diego Maradona has told that he believes Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is a better manager than rival Pep Guardiola.

There is currently quite a gap between the Portuguese’s troops and Manchester City following the latter’s 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend. The Citizens are currently sitting top on 32 points, with the Red Devils languishing eighth, 12 points behind of their rivals.

Despite that, former Argentina midfielder Maradona said that Mourinho is the better boss due to Guardiola possessing more resources in the transfer market, hence making it easier to perform.

Talking to Marca, he said: “For me yes, Mou [Mourinho] is the best. I would give Pep the merit of taking advantage of the launch that Johan Cruyff gave him.

“I have said on more than one occasion that tiki-taka was not invented by Guardiola. It was ‘flaco’ Cruyff. At the moment Pep is able to choose any player in the world that he wants. That way tiki-taka is easier.”

Manchester City have now been installed as favourites to win the UEFA Champions League under their Spanish boss. Despite having only ever reached the semi-finals of the competition, their reigning Premier League champions can be backed at 7/2 with Paddy Power. Meanwhile, Manchester United lag behind at 33/1.
