Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a ‘minor injury’ on international duty with Portugal, the Italian giants have confirmed.

The 34-year-old was withdrawn in the first-half of his country’s 1-1 draw with Serbia in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying on Monday evening.

However, Juventus have moved to allay fears of a serious problem, insisting that the injury is only minor.

A statement released by the club read: “Cristiano Ronaldo underwent tests in Portugal that revealed a minor injury to his right thigh flexors.

“He will be monitored and subjected to further tests to establish when he can return to competitive action.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been in brilliant form in Turin this season since his big-money move from Real Madrid. In 36 appearances in all competitions, Ronaldo has scored 24 goals and provided 12 assists.

Although, he has missed the last two Serie A games, first having been named on the bench against Udinese and then rested against Genoa.

He could now miss the Old Lady’s clash with Empoli this weekend through injury as Max Allegri’s men look to extend their 15-point gap at the top of Serie A.

In the Portuguese’s absence, Paulo Dybala is the favourite to open the scoring with odds of 4/1 with Betfred.
