Premier League leaders Chelsea have officially opened negotiations with Serie A outfit Atalanta over a proposed January move for Franck Kessie, Sky Italia has reported.

The Blues have returned for the talented youngster once again after having their £25 million offer for the player rejected in December hoping this time they will have better luck in persuading the Italians to sell their prized possession.

The 20-year-old Ivorian midfielder has been quick with his rise to prominence this season, making huge strides to the top with his imposing performances for Atalanta.

Having become the youngest player to score 6 league goals among all peers in Europe’s top 5 club competitions this season, Kessie has alarmed the host of clubs who are keen to acquire his services.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, AC Milan and Barcelona have all kept tabs on the youngster who came of age with his mature performances in one of Europe’s top leagues this term.

Antonio Conte wants to beat opposition and is making sure to wrap up the deal before any of the interested parties step in to possibly ruin the transfer.

By the looks of it, Chelsea appear agonisingly close to securing Kessie’s signature although Atalanta are still trying to work out a loan deal that would see the youngster remain in Italy until the end of the season.

Antonio Conte regards Kessie as a future investment and is likely to give a nod to the proposition, allowing Kessie to remain with his club and join the London-based club once the season is finished.

As for Chelsea, they are keen to finish it on a high note – as champions – and Wednesday brings a tough challenge to their title ambitions as Blues are travelling to White Hart Lane to lock horns with Tottenham.

Conte’s men can be found at 2.80 (9/5) @WilliamHill to grab three points and continue with their impressive run which currently stands at 13 consecutive triumphs.
