Spanish giants FC Barcelona are reportedly tracking Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt ahead of a potential move next summer, according to reports.

As per Spanish publication Marca, Ernesto Valverde’s men have been scouting the youngster for some time and are contemplating a move in the 2019 summer transfer window. The Blaugrana are reportedly keen to recruit reinforcements on the right-side of the defence, with Gerard Pique, Clement Llenglet and Samuel Umtiti all left-footed. The need is even more paramount considering that Pique is now 31 years of age and former Arsenal man Thomas Vermaelen is now into the final year of his contract at the Camp Nou.

De Ligt, 19, has already made plenty of progress with boyhood club Ajax. Progressing through the club’s youth academy, the Dutch international has made 76 appearances for the club in all competitions including the Eredivisie and the UEFA Champions League. In that time, De Ligt has scored eight goals and provided four assists. He has also gone on to captain the Amsterdam outfit on 19 occasions.

The Dutch defender is part of the national squad to play Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday. De Ligt can be backed at 28/1 with Coral to open the scoring with his first international goal.
