With Luis Enrique already out of the club, Barcelona have moved on to confirm Ernesto Valverde as their new manager.

Barcelona president has praised the new manager, offering his full support to Valverde who is expected to lead Barcelona back to glory.

Valverde has the ability, the judgment, the knowledge and the experience. He promotes the youth players and he has a Barça way. He is a hard worker and he is a fan of using technology in training and in managing matches.”, Bartomeu said.

The 43-year-old tactician guided Athletic Bilbao to seventh place in La Liga this season before leaving his role in charge of the Basque side last week. Former Villarreal, Valencia and Espanyol head coach also had a managerial spell in Greece.

During his playing time, however, Valverde spent two years wearing a Barcelona shirt and will now return to Camp Nou after almost 30 years. Valverde’s spell in Barcelona played a crucial role in him getting a job in the end among many candidates Barcelona officials considered for the role.

Ernesto Valverde is thought to boasts the Barcelona profile and is well-acquainted with the style nurtured at Camp Nou.

Barcelona finished the season on a high note thanks to a 2-1 win over Alaves in the Copa del Rey final.

The Cup glory allowed Luis Enrique to go with his head held up high after a disappointing campaign in La Liga and Champions League.

The Catalans lost the league title to bitter rivals Real Madrid, who will also fight for European glory against the team that eliminated Barcelona in the Champions League, Juventus.

Luis Enrique will now follow Pep Guardiola’s footsteps as he is taking a one-year sabbatical.
