According to reports from the French media outlet L’Equipe, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi.

The Spanish side is looking to replace Theo Hernandez, who is likely to leave the Vicente Calderon club during summer transfer window, and to provide alternative for veteran Felipe Luiz.

Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi has surprisingly been outlined as a possible target and Atletico Madrid are believed to have already opened talks with the Villans over the proposed summer move.

The 23-year-old Frenchman could line-up with fellow France international Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid as the Championship side Aston Villa look to cut down an overly inflated squad after another disappointing season in the second tier of English football.

Former Nice defender is also a target for the Serie A side Napoli and his transfer is set to command a €10 to €15 million fee.

Jordan Amavi joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2015, whereas the Championship club turned down a £25 million offer from China for the French defender last summer.

Amavi made only 27 league appearances for Aston Villa since his arrival back in 2015, but his influence in the Villa squad was severely limited due to an ACL tear in his right knee while the French defender was on duty with U-21 side.

The French right-back is still regarded as a quality player and there is no doubt that under the proper guidance and coaching Amavi could go on to become a valuable addition to any top side, Atletico Madrid included.
