Andy Townsend has said talkSPORT (5:43pm, March 21, 2022) that Middlesbrough-owned Nottingham Forest full-back Djed Spence should not move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea and Aston Villa star believes that Spence, who is on loan at Forest from Championship rivals Middlesbrough at the moment, would struggle for playing time at Liverpool.

In February, The Northern Echo suggested Liverpool – who can be backed at 13/8 on Betfair to win the Premier League title this season – as a potential destination for the 21-year-old, who can play as a right-back or as a left-back.

Townsend said about Spence on talkSPORT (5:43pm, March 21, 2022): “He has been outstanding. During that Cup run, he was absolutely fantastic. He looks like a player of real promise.

“However, I don’t think anyone should go to a club knowing you are going to go there and going to sit and you are going to wait.

“If he goes to Liverpool, those two positions (right-back and left-back) are incredibly strong at that club.”
