The experienced Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina was widely expected to leave Napoli this summer after what turned out to be a difficult season for the 35-year-old.

Heading into the new campaign, however, Pepe Reina turned down a chance to join Paris Saint-Germain in order to stay with the Partenopei until the end of his contract which runs out at the end of the term.

Reina has come under great criticism over the past season but managed to get past it and earn the trust from head coach Maurizio Sarri who fielded the Spaniard in the first two opening Serie A matches of the new season.

The veteran shot-stopper continues to draw plenty of interest and the Tuesday edition of Gazzetta dello Sport is suggesting that AC Milan have set their sights on the Spanish ‘keeper.

Rossoneri are thought to have already approached the Napoli goalkeeper with a desire to sign him on as a free agent next summer. Reina is heading into the closing stages of his deal with Napoli and will be allowed to talk with potential suitors.

AC Milan have reportedly made a tentative approach for Reina who is seen as a backup option for the 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italy starlet has a €70 million release clause in his contract with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain believed to be keeping close tabs on the Italy’s future No.1.

Donnarumma was subject of intense speculation this summer after initially refusing to sign a contract extension with his club. The fans were quick to turn on the youngster but he made peace with the supporters after finally agreeing to a new deal.

AC Milan are not keen to sell Donnarumma at the end of the season but are said to be preparing a backup plan just in case.

Rossoneri get back to action after the international break with a visit to Stadio Olimpico where they’ll lock horns with Lazio next weekend.

They are given 9/5 betting odds to emerge victorious against the Biancocelesti.
